Ajrakh Halter Corset Top

The Ajrakh Corset Top brings the precise geometry of hand-block printing into a softly structured silhouette. Made from cotton printed by hand in Kutch, Gujarat, the textile is created through the layered process of Ajrakh, where carved wooden blocks, resist pastes, natural dyes, and repeated washing build the pattern gradually across the cloth.

Cut close to the body, the corset gives form to the textile while preserving the irregularities that come from printing each layer by hand. Small shifts in color and pattern are a natural part of the process, making each piece subtly individual.

Ajrakh is a traditional hand block printing and dyeing technique practiced in Gujarat, known for its deep, layered patterns and precise symmetry. The process involves up to 8 stages of printing and dyeing, requiring careful alignment and repeated treatments to build the final design.

This fabric has been sourced from an 8th-generation Ajrakh artisan family in Gujarat, who continue to preserve and practice this craft. The dyes used are entirely natural, including indigo and iron-based pigments that create the characteristic blues and reds of Ajrakh.

Each stage of the process is done by hand—from carving and printing the wooden blocks to dyeing and washing—making it highly labour-intensive and time-consuming. Meeting the artisans and observing the process highlights the level of precision, patience, and skill involved in producing each textile.

100% cotton, hand block-printed with natural dyes. Please make sure to dry clean only or you may experience color run or color transfer. Each length is hand block-printed and dyed in multiple stages, so slight variation in color and in the exact placement/alignment of the print is natural and part of the handmade process.
