Hand-embroidered Chikankari bralette in 100% organza silk. Lightweight and fully lined, with dense floral embroidery in white thread across the surface. Cut with a straight neckline and thin straps.

Finished with hook-and-eye clasps at the back for an adjustable fit.

Each piece is made through a multi-step hand process—block printing the design, followed by detailed embroidery, then washing to remove the base print. Natural variations in the embroidery are part of the process, making every piece unique.

Chikankari is one of India’s oldest hand embroidery traditions, originating in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and is a GI-tagged craft. Traditionally worked with white thread on lightweight fabrics, it is known for its detailed needlework and subtle floral motifs, often influenced by Persian and Mughal design.

The process involves multiple stages. The design is first block printed onto the fabric to guide the artisans, who then complete the embroidery entirely by hand using a range of over 30 stitch styles. The fabric is later washed to remove the printed outlines, leaving only the finished work.

Due to the current structure of the industry, sourcing is done through traders and dealers rather than directly from artisans, bringing together block printers, embroiderers, and washers across stages.

This fabric was sourced from a Chikankari dealer in Lucknow after careful selection of the base material and embroidery style. Each piece is entirely handcrafted and can take six to ten months to complete, making exact repetition unlikely. Variations are inherent and reflect the process behind each piece.

100% silk organza with hand embroidery lined with cotton. Each motif is embroidered entirely by hand, so the placement, density, and exact positioning of the stitching may vary slightly from piece to piece.

Gently hand wash or dry clean. Take care when wearing with jewellery or other accessories, as they may catch on the hand embroidery. Store carefully to help protect the delicate surface of the work.
